The cd’s are arriving at last!
There’s always something. We managed to get everything in on time except the cd but fingers crossed they arrive today. I have done the second radio interview which hopefully will be on the website now as a podcast. It’s amazing how many memories are surfacing when I go back and really talk about this stuff. I’ve had some lovely emails and calls from people and I’m surprised at the number of people in town who already know about The Cancer Club.
An interesting effect of the past three months is that the weight I gained since having treatment for cancer has all but disappeared. Isn’t life strange. I’ve stressed so much about it and did all but try to starve myself back to normal but I just couldn’t shift it. Then in the last few months since putting this all together it has just dropped off. Almost all 20lbs of it. Trick is to keep it off now!
I’m meeting Ellie and Lorraine today and we are going to The Breast Cancer Ball in London. I need to go work out which dresses still fit. Can’t believe I still don’t know what I’m wearing.
And hopefully the cd’s will arrive and we can start shipping the books. At last!!!

Dear Nuala,
I suppose it just shows how easy if is for me to keep my head down, and not pick up the news from the grapevine, for this news came as a big shock - though I had been thinking we were not hearing as much from you as we used to, and was wondering if all was well, or thinking perhaps you had got yourself exhaustingly busy with the new trust work!
So, now that I know, you can be assured of my prayers and thoughts for Monday - I have taken the day off work anyway to be with the kids, so it is easier to take time out.
And so to a little “poem” -from a troubled soul …
“When I am afraid, 0 Most High,
I put my trust in You.
I trust in God and praise his promise;
In Him I trust, and will be not be afraid. Read the rest of this entry »

Nuala - what can I say. I don’t pray often but I will.
I don’t have a great poem or a pithy phrase that works but I do have a
philosophy that I try to stay true to when I feel myself being
threatened.
It goes like this and you may recognize it
I declare what is possible is what I say is possible. Who 1 am is the stand that l take
I take the stand: there is no such thing as right or wrong, there is no
fixed way that things should or shouldn’t be. Read the rest of this entry »

Hi Nuala
I’ve been trying to find some words for you, but as you know, I’m not really a creature full of words. I’ve often joked that I call people up to be quiet at them. Eventually I found this – a poem written by the wife of one of our incredibly quiet but brainy engineers. The story goes like this …. We were discussing poetry in the kitchen and Paul (who rarely says a word to me) piped up with “my wife co-authors a website”. He even sent me the link! http://www.scriberazone.co.uk. I quite like this poem, although it’s not the most cheerful, it’s very human. Read the rest of this entry »

I have been trying to write this email all week. It’s hard to find the right words to say how devastating the news affects you. Emotions are rife in all sorts of unusual ways and totally out of character. All I can say is how my Dad coped.
Live each day, love those who love you with strong words, hold no inhibitions, make light-hearted conversation and laugh at every opportunity, gain strength from those nearest and dearest, too much knowledge can have adverse affects (knowing what is happening is a good thing, trying to understand will torment you) and above all do not dwell on the present, look forward to what you will do when this mess is sorted out. Nuala,
I shall pray for you and that Mr NoCharismaor-humour will be for you Mr Surgeonextrordinaresteadyofhandandskilledofprofession.
Of course any pearls of wisdom I may have always come from the Bible. I am stuck for what to share with you. I was challenged by your email, to share words of -encouragement but not to choose “clever words” which perhaps won’t help at all…
I shall trust in Jesus, and hope that the verses below, from Psalm 31, do more than encourage, but show empathy, wisdom and comfort too. The psalmist is in distress and cries out to God, but in his heart he puts his trust in the Lord, and from that he receives strength, assurance and hope. Read the rest of this entry »

Dear Most Extraordinary and Outstanding Friend Nuala,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. You are much too special and have far too much to do to let this get the better of you. However, this is not the time to demonstrate to all of us yet again that you’re strongest of all of us. You don’t have to stay strong for anybody. You are entitled to feel whatever feelings come up – even if it’s a whimpering whinge who takes temporarily takes up residence in your body. Read the rest of this entry »

For you, there’ll be no more crying,
For you, the sun will be shining,
And I feel that when I’m with you,
It’s alright, I know it’s right.
To you, I’ll give the world
To you, I’ll never be cold
‘Cause I feel that when I’m with you,
It’s alright, I know it’s right. Read the rest of this entry »

Babe
You always have been tucked up in a little corner of my heart, right
from the moment I met you in Birmingham all those years ago …
Liberty’s was it?! You have always had a profound influence on my life …
not through a course, or training, but through you being you, and
being so helpful to that young scared guy trying to make his way in
the big had business world. You gave me confidence, you
complimented me and promoted me and sponsored me. You were
and you are my angel. Read the rest of this entry »
